Submissions Checklist for Authors

As the initial step, author/s are strongly advised to read the Aims & Scope to ensure that the paper is aligned to the journal’s area of interest and coverage. Once this has been confirmed, author/s need to prepare their paper in accordance with the full text template provided. Papers that have not been formatted according to the full text template requirements in terms of the text font, font size, spacing, margins, figure formats, citation and references format will be returned for revision which will result in a delay the publication process. In preparing the paper for content review, author/s are advised to ensure that the content of the paper does not contravene the code of ethics guidelines in terms of authorship responsibilities, plagiarism, fabrication and falsification and conflicts of interest. Author/s must also ensure that the language and writing style are of internationally acceptable standards. Those author/s who are non-native speakers of English and/or whose English language proficiency is not of international standard are advised to consult native speaker/suitably proficient colleagues or an editing service for assistance to proofread/edit the paper before submission so that the publication process is not delayed. The EJSBS review process does NOT include language corrections.

Prior to submission, author/s should check their paper has met the following stipulations:

Format 

  • Is the main text for the entire paper including quotations, references, author note, content footnotes, and figure captions formatted in Times New Roman 10 spacing 5?
  • Is the manuscript neatly prepared? 
  • Are the margins at least 1 in. (2.54 cm)?         
  • Are the figure captions on the same page as the figures? Are the paper section headings ordered in sequence, in the main text pages between the abstract and the references?             
  • Are all pages numbered in sequence, starting with the title page?  
  • Is the main text formatted according to the APA 7th edition guidelines?        

   

Title Page and Abstract  

  • Is the title no more than 15 words? 
  • Does the byline reflect the institution/s where the work was conducted?        
  • Does the title page include the running head, article title, byline, and author identification?
  • Does the abstract range between 150 and 250 words? (Abstract word limit)
 

Paragraphs and Headings 

  • Is each paragraph longer than a single sentence but not longer than one manuscript page?
  • Do the levels of headings accurately reflect the content and organization of the paper?
  • Do all headings of the same level appear in the same format?

 

Abbreviations

  • Are all abbreviations explained in full in parenthesis the first time they are used in the paper and later applied consistently throughout the paper?
  • Are unnecessary abbreviations eliminated?
  • Are abbreviations in tables and figures explained in the table notes and figure captions or legends?

 
Mathematics and Statistics

  • Are Greek letters and all but the most common mathematical symbols identified on the manuscript?
  • Are all non-Greek letters that are used as statistical symbols for algebraic variables in italics?

 

Units of Measurement 

  • Are metric equivalents for all nonmetric units provided (except measurements of time, which have no metric equivalents?
  • Are all metric and nonmetric units with numeric values (except some measurements of time) abbreviated?


Length

  • The word limit for papers submitted for consideration to EJSBS is 5000 words, including the appendices.The word limit does not include the abstract, reference list, figures, or tables. However, papers that exceed the 5000-word limit are acceptable provided the author/s have justified the extended length in the cover letter.
  • Text should not exceed 2250 words in research papers, 3000 in review and original articles, 1000 in case reports, and 500 in letters to the editor, book and thesis overviews. 

  

References

  • Are the references cited according to APA 7th Edition guidelines?
  • Are references cited in the main text stated in the reference list? 
  • Do the text citations and reference list entries agree both in spelling and in date?
  • Are journal titles in the reference list spelled out fully?
  • Are the references (both in the parenthetical text citations and in the reference list) ordered alphabetically by the authors’ surnames?
  • Are inclusive page numbers for all articles or chapters in books provided in the reference list?
  • Are references to studies included in your meta-analysis preceded by an asterisk?
  • Is the literature cited current, with the majority of works (2/3) having been published within 5 years from the year of proposed publication?

Notes and Footnotes

  • Is the author note formatted according to the APA 7th Edition?
  • Is the institutional affiliation for each author in the author note?
  • Does the author note include both the author/s’ current affiliation if it is different from the byline affiliation and a current address for correspondence?
  • Does the author note disclose special circumstances about the article (portions presented at a meeting, student paper as basis for the article, report of a longitudinal study in progress, a relationship that may be perceived as a conflict of interest?
  • In the text, are all footnotes indicated, and are footnote numbers correctly located?

  

Tables and Figures

  • Does every table column, including the stub column, have a heading?
  • Are the figures and images being submitted in an acceptable file format for this journal?
  • Have the figures and images been prepared at a resolution sufficient to produce a high-quality image?
  • Are all figures numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals?
  • Are all figures and tables mentioned in the text and numbered in the order in which they are mentioned?
  • Is lettering in a figure no smaller than 8 points and no larger than 14 points?
  • Are the elements in the figures and images large enough to remain legible after the figure has been reduced to the width of a journal column or page?
  • Are all tables referred to in the text?  

 

Copyright and Quotations

  • Is written permission to use previously published text; tests; or portions of tests, tables, or figures enclosed with the paper? 
  • Are all intext quotations cited with page numbers?


Submitting the Paper

  • Is a cover letter included with the manuscript?
  • Does the letter include all authors’ postal address, e-mail address, telephone number, and fax number for future correspondence?
  • Does the letter contain the declaration that the paper is original, not previously published, and not under concurrent consideration elsewhere?
  • Does the letter contain the declaration that the paper does not contain elements of fabrication and falsification or conflicts of interest?
  • Does the letter inform the journal editor of the existence of any similar published manuscripts written by the author?
  • In the case of co-authored papers, does the letter contain a detailed explanation of the contribution of each individual author?
  • Does the letter inform the journal editor of the existence of any similar published manuscripts written by the author?
  • Does the letter mention any supplemental material being submitted?


Once the submission checklist is satisfactorily completed, please submit the signed Copyright Form and Conflict of Interest Disclaimer as a PDF document and the paper as a word document to
